The Awori District Church Council was later elevated to an Archdeaconry with its headquarter at Christ Church, Agege. Later, the name was changed to Agege Archdeaconry and churches in Ota environs grouped into the Ota District Church Council. During another reorganization exercise, during the tenure of Most Revd Dr. Abiodun Adetiloye, the District Church Councils were scraped but the Archdeaconry structure was retained and strengthened. Later, Ipaja and Idimu Archdeaconry were carved out of Agege Archdeaconry. Churches in Ota were placed in Ipaja Archdeaconry and St Andrew's Anglican Church Ipaja as the Archdeaconry headquarter.

Awori Archdeaconry was later established and it became a missionary diocese (MISSIONARY DIOCESE OF AWORI) on the 29th May 2008 with St James' Anglican Church as the Cathedral and The Rt. Revd.(Dr.) and Mrs. J. Akin Atere as the first Bishop and Mama Awori.
